About

Recipes come and go through life like socks, lovers and automobiles.  Here in Recipe Vintage, recipes from the last forty years come back in a blaze of online glory, taken from some of the finest and obscure vintage cookery books that everyone has pretty much forgotten about.  Out of a collection of nearly fifty different books, some from over the last forty years, I present some of the best recipes from a darker era of culinary creation.
In these days of Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and the superstar celebrity chef, a lot of these recipes have been consigned to the bin.  However I am going to show you that British food in the last few decades can also be practical, healthy and affordable.  They are the perfect canvas for culinary artists to modify, experiment and tinker with.
And its not just about recipes.  Please feedback and share your thoughts and successes (or failures) with any of these recipes.  I will also try to inspire you to have a go at winemaking and maybe cheesemaking too?
Remember they are guidance only, some recipes are strange (Raspberry Cheese?) and others might seem alien to our tastes but they are free game for the adventurous culinaire.
Who am I?
My name is Chris Gower, I am a food writer and food lover who collects recipes.  This project is the culmination of many hours gazing at recipes, making recipes and thinking “I’d love to share these with my friends and fellow foodies”.  So here I go.
I blog at www.chrisgower.co.uk and tweet @chrisgower.
I am not able to test out every recipe I find, but when I do you’ll know about it!  I have a category called ‘Recipe Tryout’ which I will use to show what happens when I put these recipes to the test.
